About RCCG

OUR ORIGIN The Redeemed Christian Church of God was established in 1952 by the late Pastor Josiah Akindayomi. Though he did not know how to read or write, God gave him the name of the Church through a vision and he did scribble down what he saw in the vision, which was how the name "The Redeemed Christian Church of God" was received. Pastor Akindayomi served God with zeal and fervency and God made a covenant with him, that He would meet this church on His return and would also take the church to all nations of the earth. This is being fulfilled in our time. The church continued to grow under the leadership of this great man of God until 1981, when he passed on to glory. The mantle of leadership fell on the present leader of the mission, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, who is fondly known and addressed as (G.O) General Overseer, through whom God began to fulfill the covenant he made with the founder, pastor Josiah Akindayomi. The church has been experiencing phenomenal growth; Redeemed Christian Church of God is present in almost every part of the world.

Since 1981, an explosion began with the number of branches growing in leaps and bounds. At the last count, there were about 2500 parishes of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Nigeria. On the International scene, the church is present in numerous African nations such as Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Gambia, Cameroon, Mozambique, Botswana, Swaziland, Zambia, Ethiopia, South Africa and a host of others. In the United States of America, there are about 800 parishes in various states including Canada. In the United Kingdom, there are over 400 parishes, while the church is established in about 42 countries in mainland Europe. There are parishes in the Caribbean states of Haiti and Jamaica. We also have parishes in South America, the Middle East, Australia, etc. Today, God is still doing marvelous deeds through the Redeemed Christian Church of God, worldwide. One of the better-known programs of the church is the Holy Ghost Service, an all-night worship and miracle service that holds on the first Friday of every month at the Redemption City, Km. 46, Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Nigeria. The average headcount of attendees in the service is mostly about one million people. This program is also transmitted live on www.rccg.org.
